UncategorizedHome Remedies for Relieving A Toothache

A simple toothache can turn your whole day into a disaster. No one likes to be in pain, but when it’s a toothache, it’s even worse. You can’t eat properly, and it hurts all the time, affecting your everyday activities.

Fortunately, there are some ways of relieving toothache at home. Of course, this is just a temporary fix, or in minor cases, it might even help cure an infected tooth. But just to be on the safe side, you should see a doctor. Till then, you can try out some of the following home remedies for relieving toothache:

Cold Compress

This is the most basic way of relieving toothaches. Press a cold compress or an ice pack against your cheek where your tooth is causing pain. Hold it there for a few minutes to help numb the pain.

Pressing a cold compress reduces blood flow, which causes numbness and reduces inflammation. So, a simple cold-press or an ice pack can help relieve toothache within minutes.

Saltwater Mouthwash

Take one glass of warm water and dissolve one teaspoon of salt in it. Use the saltwater mouthwash to swish around your mouth for approximately 30 seconds before you spit it out. This will help heal an infected tooth and eliminate debris accumulated in the cavities.

Saltwater mouthwash is also great for reducing swelling in the gum and relieving throat aches.

Garlic-Salt Paste

Garlic has natural antibacterial properties because of a compound called allicin. This is one of the significant reasons garlic has such a strong history in the medical field. It’s excellent for treating infections and toothaches.

You simply need to crush a garlic glove and mix it with a little bit of salt. Appy this paste-like mixture to the affected area for some time. It will help get rid of the pain.

Peppermint Tea/Oil

Peppermint is rich in menthol, refreshing, and a great pain reliever. If you want to instantly get rid of a soar tooth, you can drink peppermint tea.

Simply boil the peppermint tea leaves in water and let them stay put for 20 minutes before straining. Swish the tea around in your mouth to reach the affected area. You can either spit it out or swallow it. Alternatively, you can use a warm teabag of peppermint tea and press it onto the affected area till it numbs the pain.

Another method that you can use is the direct application of peppermint oil. Take a cotton ball and apply some peppermint oil to it. Press the cotton ball onto the affected tooth till it gets numb.

Peppermint is antibacterial; that’s why it helps treat infections. Menthol is also a great pain reliever.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a home-friendly plant that can be grown anywhere quickly. Aloe vera gel has been popularly used in skincare, but it also has antibacterial properties. It has numerous health benefits, plus it is a great pain reliever.

According to research, aloe vera helps fight germs that cause tooth decay. So if your toothache is because of decay, you can apply aloe vera gel to the affected area and massage for a few minutes.

Clove

Cloves are excellent pain relievers. If you have a nasty toothache, take a clove and place it near the affected area. Gently chew on the clove, releasing its natural oil, which will boost the healing process.

Besides acting as a painkiller, cloves are also antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, making them ideal for treating toothaches at home.

If you don’t want to chew on the clove, you can always use clove oil. Much like peppermint oil, soak a cotton ball in clove oil and place it onto the affected area till it numbs the pain.

Clove contains eugenol. This is a compound used as natural anesthesia; this is why clove is one of the best options for relieving toothaches.

OTC Painkillers

When all else fails, take over-the-counter painkillers to get rid of toothaches. Ibuprofen is perfect in such cases. Aspirin is also good for killing pain, but it’s only suitable for people above 16 years.
